Looks like the name The Pyramids is pretty popular with musicians since there are more then few of the bands with that name: one cool Slovenian cover band that I photographed last year, then there is the Californian surf band from the 1960s and the experimental/post-rock band from Texas. But, that’s not all!
There is a band that started in the 1970s in Ohio and self released tree records, that are now worth a small fortune on e-bay. They disbanded in the 1977, to be resurrected 30 years later - their "massive Afro-centric drumming meets ecstatic group improvisations" caught attention of the famous DJ Gilles Peterson and the rest is history.
Strangely enough, English Wikipedia offers no information about this members of cosmic jazz movement (whose maybe most known members are Sun Ra Centennial Dream Arkestra that I had opportunity to photograph last year at Bažant Pohoda festival), while the German one offers quite a lot. To find out a bit more about this interesting band, I advise two links: a short overview of the band and the interview from 2012.
The Pyramids were one of the first African American creative music ensembles to explore the music of their ancestors in Africa, long before ‘world music’ as a term came into fashion.
