Exhibition opens as accompanying programme of the festival on 9th June 2017 in Maribor, Slovenia

The second edition of the festival organised by Glas podzemlja and MKC Maribor started last Friday, and will continue this Friday with two concerts (Urška Supej kvartet + OrGanic FunkaDelic), jam session and opening of two new exhibitions as part of their accompanying programme!

Regardless of how often do you go and listen to the live music, this is something you don’t see very often: twenty seven guitars (!!) - on stage!

Visiting my old town, meeting old and new friends and checking out new and smooth jazz festival (hot summer nights, cold beer and cool jazz!) - what more can one ask for? :)

The Pyramids started in the 1970s in Ohio and self released tree records, disbanded in the 1977, only to be resurrected 30 years later - their "massive Afro-centric drumming meets ecstatic group improvisations" caught attention of the famous DJ Gilles Peterson and the rest is history!

Last concert of the first part of their European tour was exactly as last gigs should be - sold out, packed and awesome!

First concert of the "Jazz v Narodnem domu" (Jazz in Narodni dom) series in 2015, brought us a very interesting Austrian electro / post-rock trio Radian!

Last night of the 3 nights Festival Etnika 2014 brought us a pioneer of "future jazz", Nils Petter Molvær!

Amazing performance by recently reunited duo that performed over 70 concerts together in the early 1990s and released a CD called "Amulet" in 1996.

Reut Regev is a known Israeli born, New York based, trombonist, composer and bandleader who presented us her critically acclaimed debut album "This is R*time" with great fellow musicians, as part of the Izzven festival.

Great night with all-star jazz quintet consisting of legendary Ray Anderson on trombone, Paul van Kemenade (alto saxophone), Frank Möbus (guitar), Ernst Glerum (double bas) and 70 years old "forever young" Han Bennink on drums.

Evening of Polish culture in Maribor's Kino Udarnik featured the Trio of the famous Polish jazz pianist and composer Artur Dutkiewicz, finalist of the Thelonious Monk Competition in Washington, USA.

Sold-out gig of an excellent rock-jazz quartet from Bristol, with Goldfrapp's Daisy Palmer on drums.

Latin sounds mixed with electronics and rap is what Dafnis Prietos Proverb Trio is all about - it really is a "afro-cuban jazz for the new millennium", as the PR announcement of the concert said.

Four outstanding musicians, gathered under the name of Ginger Baker & Jonas Hellborg Group, gave us two hours of very energetic (and in some moments, very loud), inspiring and moving music.

Opening concert for the "Leibnitzer Jazztage 2011" jazz festival was a very interesting and very cool project between young classical and jazz musicians from Austria, Slovenia and Croatia and a jazz legend, trumpeter and Grammy award winner Randy Brecker.
