Boris, Milena, Radko - theatre rehearsal
SNG Drama Ljubljana, Ljubljana (Slovenia)
Rajko Grlić, famous Croatian and Yugoslav film director and Matjaž Ivanišin, awarded young Slovenian director are joining forces in making a documentary titled "Vsaka dobra zgodba je ljubezenska zgodba" ("Every Good Story is a Love Story"). Besides a brilliant name, and great directors behind it, there is more.
The documentary is actually about the creation of a theatre performance called "Boris, Milena, Radko", that will have premiere next month in Ljubljana. But that's not all - the play is written by Dušan Jovanović, one of the most renowned playwrights in Southeast Europe. His plays have been performed worldwide for fifty years, and have been given numerous awards, among which is the New York’s Off-Broadway’s Highest Honor, OBIE. This play, his latest one, will be directed by Dušan himself.
The main characters in the play will be played by the actors for whom the play was actually commissioned and written: Milena Zupančič, Boris Cavazza and Radko Polič. The three of them are, without exaggeration, the most famous actors - practically the cultural icons of Slovenia. But wait, there's more.
The play "Boris, Milena, Radko" tells a story about three elderly people, former hippies, and now retirees. In reality, actress Milena Zupančič, who plays the character of Milena, was married to actor Radko Polič, who plays the character of Radko. But then, many years ago, she left him in a rather noisy, publicly well-known episode, and started living with writer and director Dušan Jovanović, the author of this play, who, according to some well-informed sources, is also represented in it, in the character of Boris, played by Boris Cavazza.
The documentary film will, as said in the director's statement, "will follow the production and its protagonists, and in the process tell a story of the relationship between the real and the imagined, but also a story of the relationship between the intimate and the public aspect of art".
Continuing my fruitful working relations with Mr. Grlić, for whom I have made his personal website and websites for his two last movies ("Neka ostane među nama" and "Karaula"), my job was twofold this time. I made the website for the movie, but also photographed one day of theatre rehearsals few months ago, primarily to get some visual materials for the website, enjoying the experience and feeling really honored to have such theatre and film legends in front of my lens :)
