Everyday iPhoneography with Hipstamatic app
"The best camera is the one that's with you" said world known photographer Chase Jarvis wisely publishing his book with the same title back in the 2009, full of photographs he took with his iPhone. It took me four years to completely understand what he meant - I discovered iPhoneography and Hipstamatic app when I was hospitalised for three days back in the May 2013 and the iPhone was, well, the only camera I had with me.
Fast forward to June 2016 and I’m happy to publish my first portfolio of my Hipstamatic images titled appropriately "#hipstamoments".
Black Bird / White Moon @ Maribor, Slovenia, 2014
Hipstamatic is an smartphone application for "analog photo experience", as they put it on their website. I love the fact that I don't have to do any developing or post-processing with the photos after they're done: no crop, no white balance tweaking, no contrast boost, nada. And if you're doing mostly concert photography like I do where there is always (some) work to be done after the shoot had been taken, mainly because of poor lighting conditions, this is quite deliberating. Let me rephrase this: this is VERY deliberating! :) And square format - just amazing! Don’t even get me started on slowing down to make the image (Hipstamatic "develops" every image which takes some time), which is a great way to concentrate of the image and not on the gear.
Tomaz "The Juggler" @ Maribor, Slovenia, 2014
So to cut long story short, these are just moments from everyday life which have mostly one thing in common - they're have all been taken with the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone. While I firmly believe that it's the person behind the camera who makes the image, not the camera per se, I think it makes sense that this portfolio is not based on the theme itself (like my other ones are), but on the technology behind it.
